SHORT VERSION:
A one night art event in a disused building.
THE LONG VERSION:
The idea is to redefine the concept of Art Space, to free the work and the artists from the traditional gallery/exhibition mode of working and in choosing a site due for demolition, to allow them the opportunity to thoroughly explore their response to the site without inhibition.
We are looking at this project with a hope to developing this theme in other non gallery spaces in the future.
This show is as much about a group of young artists, across a range of disciplines showcasing the experimentation of ideas that can come from utilizing such a space, as it is a comment on urban spaces as possible sites of artistic merit, and as being capable of serving an artistic function.
It is also an opportunity to comment on the history, documented or existing only in local memory, of sites that have been of public significance and reflect a part of the city’s story, before they are renovated or demolished.
