"Carbon trading - how will it work and is it enough? - Examining the Government's Green Paper"

3 Sep 2008 - 5:30pm
3 Sep 2008 - 7:30pm

Come along to hear what different community groups, individuals and renewable energy businesses have to say about the government’s proposed carbon trading scheme. Peter Boyer, Al Gore-trained Climate Project Presenter, will chair the workshop and Jessica Lerch from the state Climate Change office will explain carbon trading.

Different groups will briefly table their analysis of the scheme (eg. Nick McKim from the Greens, Melanie Barnes from the Socialist Alliance, Margaret Steadman from Sustainable Living Tasmania, Warrick Jordan from Rising Tide/Forests campaigns and Kane Thornton from Hydro Tasmania) and you will have a chance to ask questions and contribute your perspectives in discussion.

The exchange of ideas may help in formulating your own submission to the Government’s Green Paper (closing date September 10) or in guiding future action. Polls show that a majority of Australian’s feel they don’t understand what carbon trading is all about yet this is the centerpiece of the Federal government’s response to the global warming crisis. We invite you to come along, get informed and join in!
